Carolina Theatre
Charlotte's first public building with air conditioning opened in 1927 with an exotic Spanish look to the exterior. The interior has seen life in all its majesty on the screen and the stage. The auditorium is currently undergoing renovations, but this hasn't stopped the resident ghosts from causing merry mayhem.
McNinch House
This classic Victorian-era Queen Anne house, with shingles on the second story and clapboards on the first, a wrap-around veranda and bay windows, is a restaurant today. The second floor hosts the last remaining member of the McNinch dynasty, who can be seen in the front window above the diners entering below to taste Southern cuisine with a modern twist.
McGlohon Theatre
This fantastic theatre is named after Jazz Pianist, composer, and star of the Radio Show 'American Popular Song' Loonis McGlohon. The theatre is incredibly atmospheric, with stained windows on both sides of the auditorium. It also holds ghosts from its former life as a church; hymns are heard when no one is around. Ghosts of the stage also put in regular unscheduled performances!
Charlotte’s deep history is tainted by tragedy, turmoil, and grisly deaths that continue to haunt this southern gem. For centuries, the Queen City was plagued by unrelenting horrors, producing spirits that replay their heartaches nightly. From the early days of America’s first gold rush in the late 1700s to the upheavals of the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, Charlotte has witnessed monumental events—and the lingering echoes of those turbulent times remain.
No matter how much time passes, these unfathomable events maintain their icy grip on the city, manifesting in sinister spirits and unexplained activity. The ghostly firefighters still haunting the old fire station, the spectral sexton beneath First Presbyterian Church, and the mysterious Bootlegger House with its Prohibition-era secrets are just a few of the many haunted tales waiting to be uncovered. Every corner of Charlotte’s haunted heart whispers a story, each a doorway to the other side.
Named in honor of Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, the city’s regal heritage does little to shield its historic landmarks from the shadows that come alive after dark. At the storied Dunhill Hotel, guests frequently encounter ghostly figures and unexplained sounds that spook them at all hours of the night.
The infamous Bootlegger House, a former Prohibition-era hideaway, is now said to be haunted by a shadowy figure in a raincoat whose chilling presence lingers. At the Historic Latta Plantation, the spirits of the enslaved and soldiers are believed to roam; their stories etched into the very land. Even Queens University bears its spectral scars, where the forlorn ghost of a student is rumored to wander, her whispered secrets echoing through the campus.
